About this course
This course provides a comprehensive and industry-focused introduction to Finite Element Analysis (FEA), covering both the theoretical foundations and practical implementation of structural and multiphysics simulations using the ANSYS Mechanical environment.
The course is designed to equip engineers and researchers with the knowledge required to analyze, validate, and optimize engineering systems subjected to various loading and operational conditions. Students will develop a strong understanding of finite element theory, material modeling, meshing strategies, boundary conditions, solver techniques, and result interpretation for real engineering applications.
The course extensively covers static and dynamic loading conditions, including linear and nonlinear structural behavior, transient dynamics, impact loading, fatigue analysis, and different vibration analysis techniques such as modal analysis, harmonic response, random vibration, response spectrum, and transient vibration studies. Students will also explore stress concentration, buckling, thermal stresses, contact mechanics, and material nonlinearity.
In addition, the course introduces advanced engineering methodologies including topology optimization, parametric optimization, structural lightweighting, and coupled multiphysics simulations such as Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI), thermal-structural coupling, and electromechanical coupling.
Practical industrial case studies from aerospace, automotive, energy, civil engineering, offshore structures, rotating machinery, manufacturing, and heavy equipment industries will be integrated throughout the course to provide hands-on engineering experience and industrial-level simulation workflows.
Special emphasis is placed on numerical accuracy, mesh quality, convergence behavior, validation techniques, and engineering interpretation of simulation results to ensure students gain the ability to perform reliable and high-fidelity FEA simulations for real-world engineering problems.
